The Global Communication Program and the Center for Global and International Studies at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island, are sponsoring a symposium addressing the relationship of New Media to the Global Diaspora.

The symposium runs from Oct. 5 - Oct. 7. Some sessions and topics:

Digital Commmunities (Saturday Oct. 6, 9:00-10:25)

  • "Facilitating Knowledge Creation and Dissemination Among Nigeria Diaspora and Farmers with Broadband Internet: A Pilot Study"
  • "Guerrillas in Cyberia: The Transnational Alternative Online Journalism of the Nigerian Diasporic Public Sphere"

Digital Identities (Saturday Oct. 6, 1:00-2:25)

  • "Redefining 'Africa' in the Diaspora with New Media Technologies: The Making of AfricaResource.com"
  • "Blogs and Blogging: Towards a Wider Bikol Readership"
  • "New media masala: Digital media use and transnational identity among Asian Indians in the U.S."
